Health Promotion is a process of supporting, training, and encouraging others in the pursuit of well-being in areas including, Physical, Emotional, Occupational, Environmental, etc.


Our main goal has been to keep the Fishing Industry safe, and to do so, we also need to focus on Health and Wellness.

Background

Health and Wellness is a common thread among many of the issues we have been noticing:

  • Presenteeism - physically at work but not mentally at work.

  • Absenteeism

  • Worker retention

  • High Turn-over rates

  • Low job satisfaction

  • Seasonal working

  • Post traumatic stress disorder

  • Burnout/ Fatigue

What is the situation?

We have completed a survey with our members via survey monkey and it is very clear what the industry needs. It was clear to us what the issues were, but the survey solidifies our concerns.

Our Vision:

To promote health and wellness in the workplace. To reduce stigma and negative attitudes towards those struggling with poor mental health, create a more supportive environment for all, and reduce WCB rates.

There has been a misconception by many that there will be pushback or resistance to mental health and wellness – however, our discussions lead us to believe the complete opposite. We receive consistent interest in implementing new strategies and programs to improve wellness in the workplace, such as offering mental health training.
