New Policy Requirement for ALL Nova Scotia Workplaces

Effective September 1, 2025, all workplaces in the province of Nova Scotia will be required to establish and implement a policy to prevent harassment in the workplace.

Some topics to consider for your Respectful Workplace Policy

  • Statements of values

  • Define prohibited conduct, e.g. bullying, comments about race or religion, physical or verbal harassment “harassment” = engaging in a course of vexatious conduct that is known or ought reasonably to be known to be unwelcome

  • Investigation procedures

  • Training


Tips on How to Create a Respectful Workplace

  • Recognize and value diversity

  • Foster an environment of open communication

  • Value the contributions of all employees

  • Positive communication and collaboration (teamwork)

  • Encourages positive / prevents negative outcomes

  • Equal and fair treatment for all

  • Listening to others

  • Willingly and sincerely apologize to a co-worker when something you say or do may have offended them

  • Ensuring communication, feedback, and workload planning
